When did US reporting go wrong?
Boing Boing says President Bush accidentally allows interview by a real journalist. That reminds me of an article about Iraq in Rolling Stone that says in many cases, [the reporters have] been reduced to relying on sources available to anyone with an Internet connection.
What happened? The only thing I can think of is that the media mergers have created news organizations that have to answer to the monetary bottom line instead of reporting on the issues of the day. It's more important to sell newspapers and 15 second commercials than it is to report on "important" news.
I think that's why The Daily Show is so effective as a news source. As long as its funny, the content is totally wide open.
