Why, Google?
Today a got a nice comment on my blog entry about The Atlanta Time Machine from a lady asking of I would like to post a picture she has. It made me wonder how she got to my site.
A quick look through the web logs shows she was referred by a Google search for "The Atlanta Time Machine". Sure enough, I'm the third option (after two links to the Atlanta Time Machine site itself).
But why me? I admit my understanding of Google's ranking algorithm is limited at best, but my understanding of a Google bomb would make me think that people are linking to my blog. Who would be silly enough to do that?
Let's ask Google. The answer is nobody. Okay, what about links to anywhere on infloop? Once again, no links.
Is google's link search broken? Let's try searching any link to the site ranked one below mine. 992 links! That site is clearly more popular than mine. So why rank mine higher?
Color me confused.
