I ran across a problem I hadn't seen before. Our Windows XP machine wasn't shutting down cleanly. It would hang before powering off. I tried running windows update, but got a strange error. Some google searching found the solution: Re-Register the Windows Update DLL.
Ad-adware and Spybot didn't find anything suspicious. Maybe it was winrot.
