Joel on Software has an article that really captures my imagination.

That review was written by Greg Wilson, who, coincidentally, is one of the authors of a fascinating paper called Mining Student CVS Repositories for Performance Indicators [PDF], which is an interesting look at the same kind of data on performance variation between student programmers as I presented recently in Hitting the High Notes.

The paper is interesting, but it's Joel's eloquence in Hitting the High Notes that has really made me think. I have so many ideas about how to interview (and how not to interview), how to maximize programmer productivity (offices, no telephones) and Joel's article just makes me yearn for it even more.
